From 16 weeks onward, the baby’s external anatomy is typically developed enough to clearly visualize the genital area, allowing accurate identification of gender in most cases. This is also an important opportunity to ensure your baby is developing well. However, due to certain limitations such as fetal position and the amount of amniotic fluid, we cannot guarantee 100% accuracy in determining the baby’s gender.

2. NIPT Gender & Genetic Screening (Recommended)

NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing) is a simple blood test taken from the mother. The laboratory analyzes small fragments of fetal DNA circulating in the mother’s bloodstream, including the sex chromosomes (XX or XY).

 

Because it evaluates chromosomes directly, it provides very high accuracy for determining fetal gender — even from 10 weeks of pregnancy.

 

In addition, the test also screens for major chromosomal conditions, offering broader reassurance beyond gender alone.

Ultrasound VS NIPT test: what to choose?

 

Ultrasound identifies gender visually once the baby’s anatomy is sufficiently developed — typically from 16 weeks. It allows you to see your baby on screen and simultaneously assess overall development.

 

NIPT, on the other hand, analyzes fetal DNA through a blood test. It can be done earlier, from 10 weeks, and provides very high accuracy by examining sex chromosomes directly, along with screening for certain genetic conditions.

 

In simple terms:

• If you are over 16 weeks and would like a visual, emotional experience → Ultrasound is an excellent choice.

• If you are earlier in pregnancy or prefer higher precision and genetic screening → NIPT may be more suitable.
